Mat Black distressed cabinet This new cabinet has been finished in a distressed mat black finish with a dark brown patina Step 1: Apply 2 or 3 coats of an acrylic flat black paint. This paint is self priming. Be sure to apply the paint evenly and with the wood grain. Step 2: Use a paint scrapper to distress the sharp edges and remove the paint. Step 3: Use # 220 sand paper to sand the paint and edges smooth. You may need to use # 120 on the edges. Step 4: Apply 2 coats lacquer sanding sealer and rub out with #320 paper Step 5: Apply a glaze made from UTC colorants in oil "van dyke brown" and paint thinner to the surface and remove with rags to create a soft brown patina. Step 6: Apply 2 more coats of sanding sealer, rub out and finish with flat or satin lacquer.
